The movie was released to almost empty theatres in Vijayawada on Friday.
Some walked to the theatre for some respite from the heatAfter a month-long wait, Ram Gopal Varma’s Lakshmi’s NTR has finally hit the theatres here only to receive a lukewarm response from the audience.
Theatres in the city sported a rather deserted look even after the posters were put up and bookings made open to all.

Speaking on the occasion, Balakrishna gave clarity on whether Jr NTR and Kalyanram would campaign for their sister or not. Since, TDP announced Suhasini as Kukatpally candidate, speculations are rife that Balakrishna, Tarak and Kalyanram will campaign for her. A candidate may establish a campaign as soon as he or she decides to seek election to judicial office. “Judicial candidate” is defined in CJC Terminology. The candidate may personally contact individuals, including attorneys, to ask if they would be willing to serve on a campaign committee.
“The movie was quite appealing. The events unfolded in the movie seemed accurate and none of it was exaggerated. People should know why N.T. Rama Rao was deserted by his family and party workers,” said Pardhu Ganesh, a third year engineering student studying in a college here.
Pardhu was one of the few people in the audience to have watched the movie with interest.
The theatre, which could accommodate a large audience witnessed only a handful of them for the matinee show. “We came to watch the film because of the controversy it had stirred up last month, but there is nothing worth the controversy,” said Ajay Kumar, who planned on leaving the theatre right after the interval.”
A few people walked to the theatre for some respite from the rising temperature “Standing outside in the heat is unbearable, hence, I decided to enjoy the AC in the theatre,” said Srinivas Kumar, who casually shared a laugh along with few others who walked in with the same intention as his.
The biopic, which was supposed to release on March 29, was postponed until yesterday after some TDP leaders approached the Election Commission alleging that the film depicted the former Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh, N Chandrababu Naidu in bad light, which could have the potential to impact the poll prospects.
The film gained more traction when Ram Gopal Varma was detained at the Vijaywada airport when he announced, on Twitter, that he would hold a press conference, in the middle of the road, for the film.
The biopic delves into the life of Telugu matinee idol and former Chief Minister, N.T. Rama Rao of the then united Andhra from the eyes of Lakshmi Parvati and the relation both of them shared during his last days.

Nandamuri Balakrishna was not having the best time recently after the huge failure of NTR's biopic. The film was made in two installments - NTR: Kathanyakudu and NTR: Mahanayakudu. Both the movies were directed by Krish and they failed to perform well at the Box Office. The actor, as already known, contested from the Hindupur constituency in this year’s Lok Sabha elections. Now, the day has come when the results are being declared and the whole of India is waiting to know whether the ruling party will stay on or be overthrown. According to the latest reports, Nandamuri Balakrishna has won his seat from the Hindupur constituency though his party TDP, is losing badly.
For the uninitiated, Hindupur is an Assembly/Vidhan Sabha constituency in the Rayalaseema region of Andhra Pradesh and is located in the Anantapur district. The actor had won in the last election too and it looks like his followers are in favour of him, this time also. Now, it is almost confirmed that The Y S Jaganmohan Reddy-led YSRC is leading in 151 seats and TDP in 24, as per trends available with the Election Commission. In 2014, Balakrishna Nandamuri of TDP had defeated YSRCP’s B. Naveen Nischal. Hindupur went to the polls in Phase 1 of the 2019 Andhra Pradesh Assembly polls on Thursday, April 11, 2019. Fans of Nandamuri Balakrishna are overjoyed and even his celebrity friends have been congratulating him on his win.
Having taken a long enough break to campaign for the elections, Balakrishna is all pumped up to return to the silver screen. Other than his film with KS Ravikumar, the actor will also star in director Boyapati Srinivas’ upcoming film, which will go on floors later this year. It was being reported that Payal Rajput will be seen alongside Balakrishna in the Ravikumar directorial but the producer of the film has denied it.
